Top tips for winter fitness

Stay well during the colder months with your choice of exercise at our welcoming recreation centres and sporting facilities.

Whether you want to tear around the squash court, take a leisurely dip in a heated pool, join a friendly sports team or anything in between, there’s something for you.

Here’s a small sample of what’s on offer in your neighbourhood:

1. Community sport

Get back to your favourite sport, or try something new, with the return of tennis, bowls, rowing and community teams. Visit Active Melbourne to book a court or browse clubs, from rugby to live-action role play.

2. Accessible fitness

Need a little support? We offer free group classes for people of all ages and abilities, including yoga, Zumba, and maternity pilates. Call 9376 1633 to enquire at Kensington Community Recreation Centre.

3. Virtual classes

Get fit from the comfort of home with oodles of free virtual classes for all fitness levels. To get started, browse what’s on offer at the Virtual Y or download the Active Melbourne app.

4. Women’s sport

Enjoy a women-only workout at Kensington Recreation Centre every Friday from 8pm to 9pm. Spend time in the gym, have a swim or sweat it out on the basketball court.

5. Skate skills

Show off your moves or marvel at the cool kids in action at Riverslide Skate Park. Learn to skate at regular coaching sessions, including dedicated sessions for girls and beginners.

6. Waterfront walks

Walk along the water’s edge at Docklands to get a whole new perspective on the city. While you’re there, say hello to our marina staff as they monitor the pontoons and vessels, whatever the weather.
