Lord Mayor’s message

Autumn is a time of celebration for our city, with beloved events like Moomba, Yirramboi and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival set to inspire, entertain and delight people across our municipality.

This is also an exciting time for the City of Melbourne as our new CEO Justin Hanney settles into the role.

Chosen from an extremely strong field of more than 140 candidates, we are delighted Justin will be leading our organisation at a critical point in our 160-year history.

Justin started his career as a youth worker in Collingwood and has gone on to an impressive career in the public sector across all three tiers of government.

His extensive resume includes roles such as Chief Executive Officer of Regional Development Victoria, Chief Executive Officer of the City of Yarra and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Justin has particular interest and expertise in the areas of infrastructure, investment, employment and tourism – all critical to the success of our great city and its people.

I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge former CEO Ben Rimmer for his great contribution to the city. I wish Ben and his family all the best going forward.

At the City of Melbourne we’re focused on shaping the city to create the brightest of futures for all Melburnians and Melbourne magazine is packed with news about inspiring members of our community.

As the weather cools and the leaves fall, I encourage you all to get out and enjoy our beautiful city. And don’t forget to share your adventures with #MelbMoment.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp
