Stroll along the northern end of Exhibition Street to discover a new floral oasis at the gateway to the Carlton Gardens.
Located at the intersection of Victoria Street, the Exhibition Street Reserve was recently expanded into a small park through the removal of six car spaces.
Concerned that any major works could harm an existing, mature poplar tree located in the reserve, our team came up with a creative solution for the landscape design.
This included removing a disused fountain and garden bed, and trialling some picturesque perennial plants while the poplar tree lives out its life.
The park now features a mixture of native and exotic species, complemented by native grasses, shrubs and flowering groundcovers – an uncommon approach in an urban environment.
Plants include bower wattle, smoke bush, pink Jerusalem sage and hummingbird mint.
